Stardust
an adventure set in the Firefly Universe

So I've started working on a Firefly campaign. I'm doing the character creation a little differently this time around; I'm making the characters myself, writing up their backstories, and filling out their beginning character sheets.

My plan then is to have players "audition" for parts (so sucking up and pleading are expected).
I've got about 4 out of the 6 main characters rolled up with plans to have anywhere from 4 to 8 players, with an ideal number of 5 or 6.

The idea is to have a backstory for each character written out, leaving plenty of room for player interpretation and input, as well as places for the backstory to be altered in favor of dramatic quality. Then to have a handout for the other players detailing what they would know about the other characters, as well as some personalized stuff for characters that know each other better, and finaly a handout for each player detailing things that only they know about their character.

The plan is for the gamemaster taking on the role of director/series creator and the players to take on the role of actor/writer, making for a high-quality role-playing experience.

If the game ever comes to fruition, it will most likely be played here in Minnesota, or at Wapanese camp next summer.

I'll post more information about it as I create more about it. Right now the game is nothing more than a list of names and occupations and a hand-full of character sheets, but who knows, this may become my next great roleplaying project.

P.S. I've also started coming up with some groundwork for the sequel to the Sarge Chronicles.

Traits
Branded (minor complication) - Luke is well-known by natives of Athens as a traitor after he joined with the independents during the war.
Credo (major complication) - He takes care of those who look out for him. If someone sticks their neck out for him, they can one day expect him to do the same.
Deadly Enemy (minor complication) - 'Bout a year or so back, Luke and his crew got caught up in a dispute with another freighter captain. Words and bullets were exchanged, most of the offending party was left lyin' and some bystanders were caught in the crossfire. Luke gave the cargo of the other ship to the families of those caught in the fight and the captain of the other ship has been hunting him for it ever since.
Fightin' Type (major asset) - Luke has always been the tusslin' type.
Leadership (minor asset) - Luke has a tendency and a talent for inspiring people, this became apparent during the final days of the war.
Loyal (minor complication) - Luke looks out for his crew first and foremost, and their well-being comes first in his mind.
Mean Left Hook (minor asset) - Years of bar brawls and combat classes have taught Luke how to hit harder than most of folk.
Memorable (minor complication) - People can't always pin it down; maybe it's the way that he carries himself, the way he talks, or the rather prominent facial scar, but folk tend to remember him. Sometimes it works in his favor...but then again, sometimes it doesn't.
Military Rank (minor asset) - Luke was a corporal during the Unification War, and still shares a bond with many of those who fought in the war, regardless of what side they were on.
Talented: Unarmed Combat/Brawling (minor asset) - Luke has always had a talent for fighting without weapons, classes in his youth and later military training only served to enhance his abilities, turning him into one mean wong ba duhn in a fist fight.

Background: Luke was born to a well-off Alliance Military Family on Athens. His father, an alliance officer at the time, had him enrolled in several Military Training classes. He preformed extremely poor in most of his classes except for unarmed combat which he excelled in. Despite his father's wishes Luke seemed uninterested in pursuing a career in the Military like his father. So when the Independents captured Athens it surprised everyone when he volunteered for the war, and for the Independents no less.

Luke spent the next few years fighting for the Independents making his way to the rank of Sergeant at the time of the Battle of Serenity Valley. Luke's platoon were on the front lines of that battle and suffered heavy losses. Long before the order to lay down arms came through, Luke and his men were cut off from the main Browncoat forces, with him being the highest ranking member present he made the decision to lay down their arms before the battle was over. While this was met with more than a little hostility from some of the other Independents present at the battle, those who were there with him know that he had no other choice.

After the war, Luke drifted around in space for a few years. He worked a few odd jobs and hired himself out as some extra muscle on occasion. It wasn't until later that fate dropped his chance into his lap in the form of an childhood friend: Tobais Summerfeild.

Tobias or "Toby" as Luke had called him in their younger days, had left Athens with his family before the War and had done extremely well since, making a large amount of money off the stock market. He revealed that he was looking to do some adventuring in the 'verse and had heard that his old friend was working the space lanes as a freelancer. After some discussion, Luke agreed to help purchase a ship and find a crew as well as agreeing to captain the ship.

Since then he's pulled together a crew, while they might not always get along, they've all managed to hang on and keep flyin'.

Overconfident (minor complication) - Blessed with extraordinary success in his youth, Tobias is what most of people would refer to as "cocky".
Talented: Pilot/Space Transports (minor asset) - Despite little formal training, Tobias is a talented and skilled pilot, and as such as taken over the duties as pilot of Summer Night.

Lightweight (minor complication) - "Heather" is incapable of holding her alcohol, succumbing quickly to it's effects.
Loyal (minor complication) - She is fanatically loyal to Captain Cadence, and treats him as her superior. She follows his orders without question as a way of repenting for the damage she caused to him.
Straight Shooter (minor complication) - Her former life left little time for her to develop much in the way of social graces, making her very blunt conversation.
