Alexander becomes visibly excited, "I had never thought of that. First engineer in a new galaxy leading the way into the vast expanse of the universe... Where do I sign up?"

Dr. Gnaeus Holt smiles, opens his desk drawer once again and drops the X-Colony 1 paperwork in front of Alex.

Weeks after receiving his Ph.D and completing his application materials for X-Colony 1, Dr. Alexander Bishop finds himself being launched into orbit to participate in some preparatory space-travel training.

Alexander scrunches his nose at the noticeable absence of his glasses. He was informed that the high velocity of take-off required removal of his glasses. The thought of his glasses shearing his head in two was enough to take the discomfort of not being able to see clearly during blastoff. However, his hands still seemed unwilling to relinquish their white-knuckle grip on his safety harnesses.

The whir of the engines beginning to come alive as they prepared for take off reminded Alex of the helpful pilot who had reminded him a day earlier to make sure his bowels and stomach were empty before takeoff. He may have been joking but Alexander was now grateful that he heeded that advice. His insides became knots as the engines began to propel the craft down the frighteningly short runway.

Alexander's head snapped back from its view of his crotch. The blur of the world around him seemed somehow in fluid motion. As soon as it had began, however, it was over. Alexander was suspended gracefully in the air, albeit at a 90 degree angle. He felt a moment of tranquility as the jeers and G's of takeoff were momentarily abated. Soon after, however, the pilot warned that the craft would be puncturing the atmosphere.

As if hitting a wall the craft dropped speed and the whole craft came alive with a deep red dancing light frolicking on the interior of the craft. The craft shook with an intensity that made Alex wonder if the craft was going to be torn asunder or that the engines would crush the craft against the atmosphere like an empty soda can.

This soon passed. As he slips his glasses on the whole galaxy comes to life. The constellations of the galaxy seem to burst from the black vastness of space in a way that you could never see from the ground. Each pinpoint of light seems to hang in the air as if it were a diamond suspended upon an invisible string. Alex is mesmerized by the stark and irrational beauty of the cosmos. His gaze wanders the vastness of space realizing that this beauty is endless, pure rapture.

((Alex's Plot Points +2 = 9))

The shuttle careens through the fringes of Betalla's atmosphere toward a small space station in orbit there. As Alex is entranced by the view of space, he hears a voice from the opposite row.

"Alex? Is that you?"

"Yea, its me..." Alex cranes his head to see where the voice comes from.

Alex turns his head to see a girl addressing him: Robin Kretoia, whom he'd often seen in the Engineering School's repair bay. Without fail there was always a different car or truck or sometimes even starfighter that she was working on. She always seemed like a bright girl; beyond her mechanical inclinations, it was also often said that she was a math genius.

She smiles. "Hey! Some ride, huh?"

Influence d8+2d4+d2 vs. Average (7); roll 12

Robin is actually kind of pretty without oil stains all over her, though maybe she could do without the overalls for once. Alex feels particularly at ease to see her.

"Yea, some ride indeed. I would just stay up here if I could. I dread finding out what the ride back down will be like." Alex's face begins to blanch at the thought but he attempts to put on a tough face in front of Robin.

"And how did you come to be up here in the Deep Dark?"

Robin laughs. "How'd I get here in the Deep Dark?" she repeats. "Well, we're all X-Colony 1 recruits here. I was working on a car one day when Dr. Holt came by. He told me about the mission and said he'd recommend me as a mechanic."

She grins girlishly. "Sounded like fun. And as it turns out, here I am!"

"Dr. Holt is the one that got me involved aswell. Apparently, there are opportunities up here to do some research. That's why I'm here. I never enjoyed flying much, let alone space travel. Anyway, I guess my job is just to be an engineer. I hope to put these glasses of mine to good use.", Alexander finishes while adjusting his spectacles.
