Post A Possible House Rule for SWSE. Reply with quote
So I was thinking about implementing some house rules concerning the Dark Side (ways to make it tempting and what have you), I was reading about some ideas that other people had and have decided at the least to implement the following for Force-sensitive characters.

With GM permission, A character can take a darkside point and gain the use of a force point at any time.

The other one is something that I'm toying with the idea of using and I'd like to get some feedback on it before I go ahead.

With GM permission, during an encounter a character can take 2 darkside points and gain an immediate one-time use of the power Dark Rage.

Feedback bitches.

I like the idea. Although I think the later should be situational. Such as certain character dies, kinda like what happened with Sarge when Daranek dark raged on Misha.

Some rules to help geeto actually be playable ingame as an Antaran would help. Such as like a feat or something I dunno really we would have to talk about it to make it fair.

The Saga Edition Core Rulebook wrote:

Atoning
A hero tainted by the dark side can work his way back to the light through heroic deeds, the use of Force Points, and by atoning for past misdeeds.[...]

Effectively, the tainted character accomplishes this by reducing his Dark Side Score. A character can sacrifice 1 Force Point to reduce his Dark Side Score by 1 and clear one box on his Dark Side Score tracker. This form of atonement represents a period of meditation, reflection, and absolution on the part of the character. If desired by the player and GM, this can be worked into the campaign as part of an adventure, but it isn't necessary. It can occur between adventures.

There are already rules in place to make less morally black-and-white Force-using characters like Geeto and Spyridon playable.

That sounds fine. It makes Dark Side Points and Force Points kind of interchangeable, although there's a bit of a waiting period or story requirement the other way around. I think it works out, making Dark Side Points somewhat heavier.

That might be too tempting, considering that you take a Dark Side hit even if you know the power to begin with (not counting further hits you might take from whatever it is you do while enraged). Like Pudge said, I'd just make it situational - a kind of roleplaying "reward" - and adjudicate Dark Side Points however.

Atonement might work but it has the light side slant that I don't like for geeto to have.

Welcome to Star Wars.

It's just a rule, though. I look at it like Sanity in Call of Cthulhu or whatever; instead of accepting the full significance of what you've seen (here accepting that you willingly performed an evil act), you dismiss it as a trick or hallucination or something (here you justify it as "for the greater good" or what-have-you). Ultimately you can fluff it up however you want.
