I'll keep a running thread of announcements to players here. If there's some reason I'm not able to post a day or two or some broad game-related matter I'm looking for input on, I'll post here.

Sorry I haven't been as on-point with the posts these last couple of days. You can blame part of that on GOG.com for getting me addicted to Jagged Alliance 2, but of course the other part is a bit more complicated. Regardless, I'm back and ready to get things full-steam again.

I'm looking for player feedback on a couple of things as well as creative input. If you want, you can get in touch with me on this through PM or start a thread here -- whatever you want.

What do you guys think of the character prologues so far? Are they effective? I didn't just want to throw everyone on X-Colony 1 without a little exposition first, but I didn't want to do something drawn-out like I tried with CoP. Is what we have here a good compromise?

What do you think of the combat in the Daniel Morris prologue? The system seems fine on its own, but I keep getting the impression that it's a bit unwieldy for PBP -- a lot of number crunching for me and not a whole lot of output in the narrative. Do you guys have any ideas for better ways I could adapt the system? Or at least a better notation to make everything more readable?

Since we'll be leaving the Haeleris system soon and I meant to start all the characters out in a relatively clean slate of a setting, I'll get to actually world-building before long. I'm really open to player input right now. You guys know the basic setting: near future, Betalla, Muntoas, Colonial Council, Stellar Navy, clans on the fringes, Iolorian religion. If you have any ideas for embellishing on anything in the setting, be my guest. Maybe I'll take Wicker's suggestion and start an Obsidian Portal wiki for the Haeleris system.

What do you think?

You guys are nearing the ends of your respective character prologues, and I'd like to get all of them wrapped up sometime this week. Pretty soon after that I should be able to get the real game going.

I'm going to go ahead and end the character prologues. It seems like in the cost-benefit analysis (you guys are busy, after all), these just aren't entertaining to the players anymore. Granted, I did have very little left planned: Daniel was just going to finish up his conversation with Bart, which was admittedly a little mundane aside from some NPC characterization; Alex was going to confront Dr. Holt, but perhaps that could be better left unseen.

Whatever happens, all three PCs end up at X-Colony 1's castoff. Andrew, I'll leave it to you what happens between Alex and Holt and why Alex ultimately still ends up taking part in X-Colony 1. Just let me know; if you need some of my personal input, I'll be glad to pitch in.

In light of what's been going on recently, I'm going to institute three new rules for the X-Colony 1 PBP.

1. If you do not post in one of the ongoing, open gameplay threads for one consecutive week and are "noticeably absent" (which is to say that there isn't something going on that you actually have little opportunity to interact with), on the seventh day I will make your character an NPC until you return and confirm that you still want to play.

2. Player characters with little to no involvement in an entire open gameplay thread will not receive any XP. A good rule of thumb here is if you've earned at least one plot point or at least meaningfully interacted with other PCs, NPCs or the environment, you're good. ("Open" here means threads that are not character prologues, character vignettes [see below], etc.)

3. If you expect to not be able to post for a while, inform me beforehand and I will handle your character as an NPC starting and ending at whatever points you want. Any important storylines for your character will be pushed back; if your presence is necessary to the other PCs as well, I will likely call for a break until you return. Rule #2 still applies in this situation.

Although I would have preferred if I could have made these rules known beforehand, pending Wicker's participation or not, tomorrow his character may become an NPC until further notice. (Tomorrow makes one week since the start of the Castoff thread.)

Soon I would like to start the first character vignette, a thread much like one of the character prologues that runs alongside the ongoing open threads. The content of these threads may be flashbacks, visions/dreams/etc. or personal encounters that do not involve the rest of the characters. I'll get in touch with the player whose character vignette will be coming up, and we'll hash out what kind of things will be in it.

They shouldn't last very long, and unlike with the character prologues, there will also be the regular gameplay going on.

Sorry about the brief hiatus there, guys. My classes thus far have been a bit rough, and starting tomorrow they're only going to get rougher.

I'm going to try, however, to get Castoff finished within the next week and push Daniel's vignette as far as I can. After that I may have to officially call for a hiatus until I get into the groove of things over here. To reduce the downtime however, there are a few things I could use from the players. (Always feel free to give suggestions for other characters besides your own.)

Aboard X-Colony 1
Alex and Daniel
What are the kinds of things you'd like your character to be involved in on X-Colony 1? What kind of NPC interactions are you interested in? What kind of events would be interesting? Anything you could tell me would be great.

Backstory
Alex
I could use a lot more backstory and characterization from Alex. If you could hit on some memories that we could explore in character vignettes and that could have interesting implications in the present, that would help out a lot.

X-Colony 1 NPCs
All Characters
I'd like each player to briefly describe an NPC (other than those already established) they might regularly interact with on the X-Colony 1. This could be any kind of relationship you want as long as it interests you. (Daniel has so many NPCs associated with him that he might be okay.)
