Character Creation Checklist

1. Read the latest edit of the PBP rules. Just before the game begins, read them again to see if anything has changed.

2. Familiarize yourself with the setting. Get an idea of how your character will fit into it.

3. Create your character. Go to this thread for more information. You can find a character questionnaire here.

Right now you're free to post anywhere in these pregame threads.

We'll be using d20 Modern, as per Nick's first campaign. We will likely use Restless Dreams for psionics with some modifications. I can get a copy to you if you want to look at it. (Whatever system we use, expect me to use a lot of systemless, plot-device level stuff for some events and individuals.)

My own perks-and-flaws system will be used to further customize characters.

Leadership will be available as a feat. It requires at least 6th level; the Charismatic base class and the Lawbringer, Personality and Telepath advanced classes can take it as a bonus feat. Your leadership score is equal to your charisma modifier + your reputation score + half your character level, rounded down. Each talent on the Charismatic hero's Leadership talent tree gives you an additional leadership point in addition to their normal abilities.

I will use the standard formatting rules in the PBP rules post. If I decide something doesn't work or something might work better another way, I will inform you and modify the rules thread.

I will be rolling all of the dice. I will roll real, physical dice.

You can use anything in the standard d20 Modern rules. The feats Mastercrafter and Urban Tracking will be available from d20 Future. The information in d20 Apocalypse (in particular the feats Expert Scrouger, Fight with Anything, Shrewd Bargainer and Thrifty Mechanic) and Restless Dreams may become relevant but isn't at character creation.

I will narrate at you in second person, referring to NPCs and other characters in the third person. You can describe your own character's actions/dialogue/whatever in either the first or third person.

The tone of CoP will include a mixture of loss, frustration, trauma and vague awareness and fear of "the other." The world changes, and your characters will struggle to rationalize their new world while just plain trying to survive. There will rarely be happy times.

Initiative will be rolled once per encounter. Wealth bonus will generally not be relevant, as at some point we will switch to the bartering and "parts" systems of d20 Apocalypse.

My NPCs will come in four types:

Ordinaries: As per the d20 Modern book; no talents, no action points; built with the standard ability score array. They start with 0 perk points by default; can only acquire them by buying flaws. They will also not get full HP automatically at level two.
Heroic GM Characters (Support): As PCs except a) built on a 25-point buy and b) they only have half the number of action points they should have for their level.
Heroic GM Characters (Full): Built the same as PCs; will not be as common as the support variety.
Plot-Device NPCs: May not be statted at all; may have abilities far beyond what the system itself presents; used sparingly.
